Abstract
An experiment for the direct measurement of the atomic mass unit was proposed (Glaser, 1991). To obtain a weighable mass a dedicated set-up for the low energy beam transport (LEBT) of heavy ions is needed. The type of the ion source used as well as measurements of the extracted bismuth ion beam is presented. The LEBT-section is discussed using SIMION-3D calculations
