Abstract
Methods for implementing software defined radio (SDR) hardware are systematically analyzed with consideration of digital processing device trends. They are categorized by the sampling frequency and modular functionality, and their advantages and drawbacks are discussed. Based on the analysis, a flexible-rate pre/post processor (FR-PPP) block that employs FPGAs is proposed to process both narrowband cellular phone and broadband wireless LAN (WLAN) signals with the same hardware, a prototype is constructed
