Abstract
The author outlines the importance of standardization, and an overview of national and international activities is given. The relationships between the worldwide standardization work of the International Telecommunications Union and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) are presented. He considers the measures taken by the European telecommunications networks operators telecommunications networks operators toward the implementation of European integrated services digital network (ISDN), which will be based on unique standards. As an example, the strategy for the implementation of the European ISDN in the network of one of the large network operators in Europe is discussed
