  • Abstract
Summary form only given. The maintenance for nuclear power plant, undersea petroleum plant and several facilities in space, and rescue operation in disasters will be typical tasks for which the robot with dexterity and intelligence is expected to be introduced. To satisfy the requirements, the researches on making the robot more dextrous and intelligent have been carried out. To have more dextrous robots, the robot with more complex mechanisms is researched, like multifingered robot hands, walking mechanisms and so on. Also, to make the robot more intelligent, several control technologies for the complex robot and artificial intelligence technologies have been proposed. In this paper, with the history of robotics research in mind, the efforts which have so far been made for more advanced robots are discussed
