Abstract :
The use of computers as training tools is now well established in a growing number of fields. Space, aviation, and medicine are some of the areas where computer simulations have been useful. The use of computers as therapeutic tools is now finding a foothold in rehabilitation institutions. The Adaptive Cognitive Orthosis Shell (ACOS) is a computerized cognitive aid that will provide a set of instructions (subtasks) to guide a client (a trainee at work, or cognitively challenged person) in completing a task, thereby reducing that person´s dependence on a supervisor or care-giver. The ACOS will also keep track of the response-times of the client for each subtask, and will adapt according to the client´s performances by reducing or increasing the number of cues. The coding for ACOS is done in Visual C++, and the program itself executed from Windows 95
