Abstract :
A gain-switched Tm3+-doped double-clad silica fiber laser operating at a wavelength of approximate 2 mum with moderate output energy 14.7 mJ per pulse and a slope efficiency of 39.5% (respect to launched pump energy) is realized pumped at 1.064 mum from a Nd:YAG laser. We also present results from a numerical model that simulates 3H5-band pumping and includes all of the known pump excited-state absorption (ESA) mechanisms and, in addition, four cross-relaxation mechanisms have also been included.
