Abstract
Power transformers represent a significant portion of capital investment costs. Under existing conditions in the industry, financial resources are limited and increased demand for power has resulted in a greater strain on existing transmission equipment. There is therefore an increased interest in safely utilizing all available capacity. This paper provides a brief introduction to the principles and risks associated with loading power transformers beyond the nameplate rating.
