  • Abstract
The purpose of on-site tests on HV power cable systems is to detect defects in assembled accessories in new systems and to check the reliability of accessories and cables of systems already being in service. On-site tests should be effective to detect possible defects, but should not cause any damage. Here, attention is focussed on testing of the cable´s main insulation by means of DC voltage or oscillating wave voltage or very low frequency voltage or AC voltage 50 Hz or AC voltage with another frequency. The level of the test voltage and major requirements for test equipment are discussed. A view is also given regarding which system will be used in the future
