Abstract
Examples of advanced commutator design, a discipline-based upon the shared experience of both the motor manufacturer and the commutator supplier are presented. The purpose is not only to illustrate solutions to the numerous engineering challenges that exist, but to demonstrate that a successful quality system must be prepared to listen to and be guided by customer requirements. To fulfill the requirements of the motor manufacturer and its customers, it is vital that the component supplier promote a free exchange of ideas and technical data, as well as close cooperation and an atmosphere of partnership
