Abstract :
This paper presents an alternative single shot ΣΔ ADC architecture. The architecture is targeted at applications, such as industrial automation, where it is desirable to multiplex inputs from a number of independent sources. The “single shot” ΣΔ does not require filter settling and so maximises the overall conversion rate for multiplexed applications. Results are presented for a fourth order ΣΔ modulator which achieves 16 bit resolution with an oversampling rate of 200 samples per conversion. The circuit produces a new conversion every 350 microseconds
