Abstract
High voltage direct current (HVDC) systems are of great importance in power systems especially for long distance transmission. It is therefore necessary to develop efficient and accurate models of these switching systems for design purpose and system level studies. In order to avoid switching in the model and simulation, the average-value models (AVM) which are continuous and computationally efficient have been developed in the literature. In this paper, the HVDC system including its controls has been modeled using analytical and parametric approaches of average-value modeling. The developed AVMs are compared with the detailed simulation, and it is shown that the models are accurate in predicting the large-signal time-domain transients of the actual switching system.
