Abstract :
As a novel method for measuring the current and voltage in power system, optical-electric transducer (OET) is becoming a hot spot in substation automation system, especially about its practical application. The principles and characteristics of OET are analyzed. The effect of its application to communication system in substation is discussed. The situation of substation communication system in China is reviewed. The method of designing the interface between OET and substation communication and the control system is emphasized. One instance of applying OET in substation automation system is also described. Being a new type of electronic transformer, its application in substation automation system have a promising future due to its theoretical and practical advantage.
