Abstract
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) are an area of significant research activity these days in both academic and commercial circles. This paper presents a complete design of a Vertical Take-Off and Landing type unmanned aerial vehicle suitable for academic research purposes. The design encompasses both electrical and mechanical aspects. Particular details are provided for the material required for manufacturing components alongside the computer aided design model. A complete description of avionics required to build an autonomous aircraft, their location and purposes, as well as their interconnections are also discussed. The proposed sit- on-tail type ducted fan VTOL UAV can be used for wide variety of tasks such as border patrol, search and rescue, surveillance, convoy protection, just to name a few.
