Abstract
In this paper, an efficient Coding Unit (CU) early termination algorithm to reduce encoding time of HEVC test model (HM) is proposed. HEVC is the next generation video codec under standardization. There are many sizes of CUs and most of time-consuming procedures are including in CU encoding. It causes high degree of computational complexity. To reduce this computational burden, early CU termination method is proposed based on average rate-distortion cost of previous skipped CUs. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified through comparative analysis of encoding time and BD-rate.
