Abstract
Existing audiometers can be used to test the hearing loss of only one person at a time. If the tests are to be conducted on a large number of people, the time consumed is very large. To overcome this difficulty, a microprocessor-based mass-screening audiometer has been designed, fabricated, and tested by the authors. The audiometer is a prediagnostic instrument that carries out hearing tests automatically on eight people at a time using an 8085 microprocessor kit. The response of the persons under test to the sound signals of varying levels (0 to 70 dB in steps of 10 dB) at pure tone frequencies of 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz and 4000 Hz are stored in the processor memory. The data stored can either be displayed or plotted using a plotter.<>
