Abstract
The potential of bulk high temperature superconductors to generate large DC magnetic fields, associated with their ability to carry current without resistance, is particularly attractive for a variety of permanent magnet and wire-wound electrical machine applications. The authors discuss the generation of magnetic fields by superconductors, the superconducting materials available for machines (YBCO, BSCCO, Ti-1223), superconducting stators and rotors, and different types of superconducting motor (AC and DC)
