Abstract
This paper discusses voltage disturbances and their affect on sensitive-loads. The paper is not a comprehensive discussion but it details some of the troublesome aspects that have come to light during the past few years. Methods of minimising the problems caused by distortion are also discussed. There are many ways of classifying types of voltage disturbance. The system adopted here is to consider the relative frequency of the disturbance starting with voltage dips, which are low frequency events, up to short lived transients which are a rapid form of disturbance. Particular reference is given to CIGRE report WG 37.17
