Abstract
Three basic concepts to extract cardiovascular information from blood-pressure-pulse contours are introduced. These ideas have been used to derive the necessary data from a normal and two abnormal pressure pulses as obtained from the ascending aorta. A comparison of the results showed that, with reference to the normal pulse, the two abnormalities investigated exhibited distinctive variations in the evaluated characteristics. The significance of these results was then discussed, and appropriate conclusions were drawn.<>
