Abstract
Some advanced fuzzy logic control technologies which have been successfully applied in industrial applications in Europe are outlined. Since a significant number of applications were realized in Germany´s automotive industry, a research model car built at the RWTH University of Aachen was used as a means of illustration. The objective for the car was to drive as fast as possible without hitting any obstacle or racetrack border and without getting into an unstable situation. If the car got into an unstable situation such as skidding or sliding, the objective was to reestablish cruise stability as fast as possible. A typical experiment is outlined. The control strategy is described. The fuzzy logic controller was able to control the car even in unstable situations
