Abstract :
The ultimate capacity of all optical transport networks (AOTNs) when limited by accumulation of ASE noise and SRS is 1.8 x 10/sup 7/ Gb/s km. It decreases to about 10/sup 6/ Gb/s-km on having bit rate transparency.
