  • Abstract
Earlier authors have discussed problems observed with high-performance cesium beam tubes which result from undesirable transitions of the cesium atom. In particular, Δm=±1 (σ) transitions have been shown to be responsible for the effect, known as Ramsey pulling. The authors discuss the design and performance of cesium beam tubes which incorporate corrections and which preserve the benefits of the high-performance beam tube, but with negligible Ramsey pulling. The design results in a tube which is smaller, lighter, and potentially longer-lived than its predecessor. As a part of the extensive testing performed to quantify this new tube for use, a series of special tests were performed, looking for any form of latency effect or time-dependent effect which might affect its performance in a standard. Experimental results are included
