Abstract :
The readout electronics of a silicon microstrip vertex detector aimed at finding secondary vertices for beauty identification is described. High density and high speed have been achieved, allowing the detector to take part in the trigger. Despite the large number of channels and thanks to the use of application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), the amount of electronics needed for the readout is rather small, increasing the level of confidence and simplifying the maintenance and the cabling of the system. The use of computer-aided engineering tools allowed a very fast design (1.5 year), which was reliable and well documented.<>
