Abstract :
Using traditional word processing tools for conducting safety analyses has many limitations, e.g. data is not structured and a word processing environment does not provide an appropriate platform for further development. The aim of this research was to develop a better tool for conducting safety analyses. Therefore, the goal of the research was to develop a data management tool from the viewpoint of the system safety concept and it was decided to narrow down available methods to the hazard and operability (HAZOP) analysis. This paper will explain the tools and methods which were used in developing the tool and give an overview of the development process. The developed data management tool improves analysis data management, by enabling safety analysts to conduct hazard and operability analysis more easily and to produce reports rapidly. Data is more structured in the database and the platform opens up new possibilities for additional development.
