Abstract :
An evolution equation for an electromagnetic wave, similar to the Nonlinear Schrödinger equation, is derived for a Gaussian beam propagating in a Kerr media. The field along the propagation direction is taken into account. Some terms usually neglected for plane waves are considered in this case. A discussion about the effects of the new terms and the generality of this results is made.
