Abstract :
This paper presents a comparison of single antenna, selection combining, and optimum combining reception from the multipath perspective of the vehicular user in a cellular communications system with cochannel interference. First a signal model is derived, power angular profiles of incident waves in conjunction with spatial correlation and cochannel interference conditions are investigated, and suitable performance criteria are defined. We then carry out a comparative study for the combining schemes under test for varying number of antenna elements, target bit error rates, cochannel interference levels, array sizes, and real-life vehicular antenna element patterns
