Abstract :
Several Lamb wave modes are generated experimentally with a comb transducer. To further understand comb transducer efficiency and mode control, a theoretical model is developed for the ultrasonic comb. The comb transducer generates waves that are influenced by such parameters as number of elements, spacing between elements, their size, pulsing sequence, and pressure distributions. The excited elastic field depends on the frequency of excitation, plate thickness and elastic properties. Techniques are studied to optimize the applied loading and the comb transducer design parameters so that only the modes that are most sensitive to particular material characteristics can be generated
