Abstract
Packet based broadband networks require efficient scheduling strategies to multiplex different service types onto one air interface. This paper evaluates the effect of the periodicity of the polling channel (PCH) required by a data scheduling scheme based on a combination of data packet segmentation and a polling scheme. QoS for data and speech services are monitored for several configurations of the protocol. Finally, the paper shows how the scheduling configuration needs to change dynamically with the system load in order to balance system capacity, QoS provision and signalling overhead
