Abstract :
EUROGAM is an Anglo/French gamma ray detector which will alternate between the tandem Van der Graaf accelerator at Daresbury and the Vivitron at Strasbourg. Because of the very sensitive nature of the electronics for germanium gamma ray detectors, VXIbus (VMEbus extensions for instrumentation) was chosen as the basis for data acquisition. A major program of development, shared between the British and French participants, is now in its full stages for operation in early 1992. Commissioning tests carried out thus far on the readout electronics for EUROGAM having demonstrated the suitability of VXIbus as a vehicle for housing very dense, high-precision, multichannel spectroscopy amplifiers and analog-to-digital converters for nuclear physics applications. The hardware configuration (Phase 1) is described in detail.<>
