Abstract
Hydropower project construction is becoming increasingly susceptible to various factors that give rise to time extension and cost overrun. Hydropower project construction contract claim is becoming both more numerous and more costly. Increasing attention is today being focused on the issue of claims and disputes resolution in the hydropower project construction. Although the hydropower project construction business environment has moved toward partnering arrangements in recent years, the number of contractual difficulties continues to rise. The paper presents the difficulties of the contractor´s claim in hydropower project construction. The countermeasures for the contractor´s claim have been analyzed. A case, which is a permanent ship lock of one hydropower project construction in China, has been studied. The case study shown that claim is an effective approach for the contractor to compensate for damages and strive for profit at the present construction business environment of hydropower project.
