Abstract
In this paper, a lightweight registration strategy is proposed for reducing database loads and signaling traffic due to location tracking. An analytic model is developed and numerical examples are given to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. Compared to the standard approach and other proposed strategies, the strategy not only reduces the access rate to the home location register (HLR) significantly, but keeps the loads on the visitor location register (VLR) and the signaling loads low as well. Results show that our strategy outperforms the standard strategy, the replication strategy, and the local anchoring strategy over a wide range of system parameters
