  • Abstract
    This study investigated transducer array configurations to produce thermal necrosis lesions for ultrasonic treatment of ocular tumors. Spherical-cap transducers with segmented strip electrodes were designed to produce asymmetric focal-plane beam patterns that may expedite the production of lesion matrices. Phased electrode excitation was evaluated as a means of reducing focal-point intensities to suppress undesired gas-body formation. Experimental beam patterns agreed well with theoretical results and initial in-vitro experiments demonstrated desired lesion features
