Although in 1993 Racal Recorders was a successful and profitable company, the question we were asking ourselves was, were we really satisfying the expectations of our customers on delivery and quality. So, taking this opportunity to reexamine what were then our current manufacturing capabilities, it was very evident that we were unable to respond quickly to customers´ orders, and in a changing world where the customer expects delivery in days rather than months it was decided we would change to a cell manufacturing philosophy driven by a Kanban
