Abstract
Reverse link power control in CDMA systems such as TIA/EIA/IS-95 systems poses a significant difficulty to network based position location. An alternative is to use CDMA pilot signals on the forward link to obtain the mobile location. We propose a mobile based long integration method for the pilot signals to increase the pilot visibility to the mobile such that adequate pseudorange estimates can be made. Simulation has demonstrated that a received pilot power of Ec/Io⩾-30 dB leads to a TOA estimate of sufficient accuracy to meet FCC requirements. With a -30 dB Ec/Io threshold, the mobile can generally detect three or more base station pilots in rural, suburban, urban and dense urban environments
