Abstract :
In general, data envelope analysis (DEA) assumes that inputs and outputs are "desirable goods", but the undesirable waste should be considered from the perspective of environmental pollution. This article utilizing "total assets", "energy consumption" and "number of employees" as the input variables, and "volume of waste water discharged", "Volume of waste gas emission" and "volume of solid wastes produced" as the output variables, calculated the pollution efficiencies of China\´s 28 manufacturing industries from 2001 to 2006. Results show that the industries of "smelting and pressing of ferrous metals", "nonmetal mineral products" and "papermaking and paper products" have been keeping the highest pollution efficiencies in all the industries during the six years. More strict and effective measures are necessary.
