Abstract :
A new signal modulation format together with a new car radar sensor used for vehicular cruising control systems and automatic braking for collision avoidance showing very high resistance against any kind of interference, including the most important from other similar vehicular systems, is proposed. The radar sensor working principle is based on the application of spread spectrum-frequency hopping technique. The surveillance is done radiating a very low power microwave signals during very short pulses spreaded randomly over a large bandwidth dramatically reducing interference to similar systems in other vehicles. A simulation SW has been developed to study system performance under different conditions. A system demonstrator has been built using low cost component technology for its application to mass production in cars
