  • Abstract
Summary form only given. The authors have made a series of measurements with one of the highest resolution 2-D modular detectors, the CTI ´BLOCK´ for the animal PET (positron emission tomography) scanner, to try to separate the optical and electronic accuracy of detector identification of the block from effects of partial absorption and scatter of annihilation photons within the detector. In order to evaluate the effect of new detector materials with different scintillation light yields and stopping power, they tested small, one-dimensional arrays of gadolinium orthosilicate and bismuth germanate crystals with three different energies of gamma-rays and equivalent energies of beta-particles. Although these comparisons are not on actual 2-D arrays, the two configurations were essentially identical to each other and inferences can be made relative to existing and potential 2-D array detector systems.<>
