Abstract :
A noninvasive arterial radioactivity monitor has been developed that measures the flux of photons emanating from the superior lobe of the right lung following an intravenous bolus of H/sub 2//sup 15/O. To determine the efficacy of the lung probe as a measure of arterial radioactivity, 16 brain blood flow determinations were made in four volunteers using arterial radioactivity measurements based both on the lung probe and continuous sampling in a radial artery. The mean absolute percent difference in water flows calculated for the invasive versus the noninvasive monitor was 5.45% and the maximum percent difference was 11.3%.<>
