Abstract
Two single-trial variance estimators, the midpoint moving average estimator (MMAE) and the homomorphic filter, were applied to a 600-trial ensemble. The estimator´s output was compared with the ensemble average. The MMAE used a window length of half the variance´s risetime. For the MMAE the mean squared error ranged from 2.5% to 105%. Of the 600 trials, 324 trials had less than 20% error and 412 trials less than 30% error. The homomorphic filter had errors of 3.4% to 157%. Only 56 trials had less than 20% error.<>
