This paper analyses the national competitive ability of China based on world and Chinese 500 data. In the first part, this paper presents the compendium of basic facts of trends of Global 500 and Chinese 500. Firm scales not only increased expeditiously in the new millennium but also with an obvious escalating of high-tech industries. In the second part, this paper conducts comparative research on national competitive capabilities by economic driving ratio, industrial concentration ratio and regional harmonious ratio of Global 500 and Chinese 500. The main findings can be summarized as follows: (1) the number of global giants in different countries is closely related to the GDP. (2) Promoting concentration ratio of guiding industries and supporting industries will enhance national competitive ability. (3) Start-up harmonious regional economy has become an important stream of endogenous developing strength of economy in China. However, in comparison with global economy structure, China still has a long way to go.
