Abstract
A new concept for operating switched reluctance motors from mains and/or battery power, with an integral battery charging facility, has been developed. No power electronics beyond the minimum required for motor operation are required. The modes of drive operation and the control scheme required are discussed and the experimental results of a two-phase self-starting prototype are presented
