Abstract
An examination is made of the possibility that abnormalities of the auditory brainstem response (ABR) can be used to indicate qualitative and functional abnormalities of the brain stem. In order to examine the possibilities, variables defined by an expert were analyzed statistically. From the results, the group of brain-damaged persons was divided into five classes, based on the degree of damage, and the relationships among the classes and the abnormalities of the respective ABRs were clarified. The results confirm the usefulness of ABRs for indicating brainstem abnormalities.<>
