Abstract
The authors describe NEC´s approach for implementing the SONET concept in an intelligent transport system for the 1990s. The system is designed to provide a bridge from the conventional asynchronous system to the SONET system. It also features a small-capacity cross-connection function, so that flexible adding/dropping and automatic line protection can be achieved without any other external modules
