Abstract
Intelligent antennas takes advantage of both antenna and propagation technologies. It has the potential to reduce multipath interference, increase signal to noise ratio, and introduce frequency reuse within a confined environment. Several challenges remain however in the development of intelligent antennas and one of these is the availability of efficient radiating elements interfacing with the beamformer. This paper presents therefore a development effort for a novel printed phased array antenna intended to be used in a smart base station of wideband digital indoor communication systems that could offer range extension, improved immunity to flat fading, interference suppression and spatial division multiple access (SDMA)
