Abstract :
A comprehensive tutorial is presented on the subject of locking and recovery. The viewpoint taken is that of the application programmer (primarily). The material covered represents a synthesis of ideas from many sources in particular, the language UDL is used as an illustration of how locking and recovery features can be surfaced in an application programming language.
