Abstract
The capabilities of the 5ESS switch both the immediate offering (e.g. 64 kb/s ISDN (integrated services digital network) voice and data services) and long-range (e.g. 150 Mb/s broadband ISDN services), are summarized. The immediate improvements available in the 5E6 generic software are described from both the end-user and service-provider perspectives. For the service-provider the 5E6 feature set offers cost reduction, the introduction of revenue-generating services, and reduction of network investment expenses
