Abstract :
The DEX-CTRON operating system for the switching and communications service nodes that make up an ISDN (integrated services digital network) is discussed. The purpose of this operating system is to improve software productivity, thus facilitating the construction of ISDNs. DEX-CTRON is designed to improve the portability of upper-level software and to increase the capability of carrying out a very high degree of multiple processing in close to real-time. The author first focuses on the TRON project, of which DEX-CTRON is a part and the design concepts of CTRON from the standpoints of switching and communications applications. Then he discusses methods for increasing the functional performance of DEX-CTRON and the applications of DEX-CTRON to ISDN systems
