Abstract :
The ultimate goal of implementing Smart Grid technologies is to achieve high reliability and economic efficiency of electric energy transmission and distribution to consumers. This can be done only when control centers of electric networks are provided with complete information. Installation of smart meters is a necessary but insufficient condition for information support. There is a need for highly accurate primary data transducers, with linear transfer function, to provide information on the most important system parameters. Traditionally the induction-type instrument transformers equipped with ferromagnetic core were used as primary transducers. The authors suggest for these purposes Rogowski coil with non-ferromagnetic core. An indispensable condition for successful operation of the networks is their good physical condition. Even with high quality relay protection short circuits can occur in the lines. For the line to be quickly restored it is necessary to detect the place of fault. This can also be done by using Rogowski coil along with the cutting-edge information technologies. The two areas of Rogowski coil application that are suggested by the authors allow one to improve the quality of information support to the control centers and enhance their technical level.
