Abstract :
Measurements on soft magnetic materials were made to determine the measurement capability available to the partners of a government funded collaborative research project with 16 partners. One of the aims of this project was the development of advanced magnetic materials for novel electrical machines for use in harsh environments such as gas turbines. To establish the measurement confidence necessary to deliver the project goals, an equivalence study between the three institutes that are authors of this paper and who provided the required measurement knowledge was undertaken. The results of this are presented in this paper and more results along with the measurement capabilities of the institutes involved will be presented in the full paper. The development of these capabilities to determine properties for operational conditions such as mechanical stress will be introduced and results presented in the full paper.
