Abstract :
The authors consider the issues related to the development of computer-aided analysis and design (CAAD) tools for computer communication networks. They describe a step-by-step procedure to develop a simulation tool and present a checklist of parameters that a computer network CAAD tool should have as a part of its output. Various methods of obtaining confidence intervals and their pros and cons are discussed. Generation of random numbers according to a given probability distribution function and their impact on confidence intervals are examined. Issues related to convergence of simulation results are addressed. The feasibility of hybrid CAAD tools (partly analytical and partly simulation) for computer communication networks is considered
