Abstract :
This paper presents a coordinated active and reactive power regulation on a small sized energy capacitor system for the stabilization of electric power systems. The active power flow control is achieved by the active power regulation, i.e., the charging or discharging operation on the ECS. The voltage regulation is also achieved by the reactive power regulation on the ECS. Through both the active and the reactive power regulation, the electric power system can be stabilized quite effectively. To demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed coordinated regulation, nonlinear simulations have been performed in the Matlab/Simulink environment In the simulations, full sets of the excitation control systems including the power system stabilizers and the speed governing control system including the turbine systems are considered. The simulation results clearly indicate the efficiency of the proposed active and reactive power regulation.
